How to Pick a Good Pocket Knife

More and more men these days are carrying pocket knives as part of their "everyday carry".  Its not such a new practise however.  Kids 40 years ago always had a pocket knife.  Anyone who doesn't carry one always thinks you are going to use it to stab someone and that's just wrong.  A simple, sharp knife is one the most useful tools that you can own.  Having one always with you makes a world of difference and you will find you will be using it almost everyday.

There are several companies out there that make great knives.  Two of the better ones being Gerber and Spyderco.  These two companies in particular make a wide variety of pocket knives with many different features.  You can shop and buy directly from their respective websites if you want.

Think about the features you want in your knife.  If you are going to be carrying it with you everyday then consider one with a clip or belt clip.  You don't have to put in on your belt.  The best way to wear it is on the inside of your pocket so people only see the clip itself.

Another feature is the locking mechanism.  It can be either a frame lock on a button lock.  I prefer a frame lock since it's harder to accidentally close the knife while holding it.

Next you will want to consider the blade itself.  Blades come in all shapes and sizes.  he type of blade you want will reflect what you will use it for.  If you just want an all purpose blade then I would recommend getting one that has a combination straight and serrated edge.
Taking that all in mind shop around or look at company websites and see what fits your purpose and budget.  You can even look locally at hardware stores to see what they have or what's currently on sale.  Remember, even though a knife is a weapon please don't use it as one.  It is better served being a tool for everyday use.
