10 Common Fashion Mistakes Made by Men

Upgrade Without Spending Money

A lot of men out there right now may be thinking the same thing at this point when it comes to fashion, that you cant afford to look fashionable.  Well, you are partly right, high end clothing is expensive but men can still look good and not break the bank.  Men can instantly improve their style just by avoiding common fashion mistakes.  Your investment may be very little but the difference will be great.  Here is a list of fashion mistakes that all men should avoid doing.

Sandals with Socks

Sandals should be worn infrequently to begin with.  Wear them if you are going to the beach or out to the front yard to take out your trash or get the paper.  If it's a hot summer day and you don't plan on going out anywhere then you can wear them around.  Never should you be wearing them with socks at any time.

Name Branded Clothing

Some high end clothing will be branded with the name of the company but its important to be subtle about it if you have any.  If all the clothes you have and brightly and overly branded then you should cut that down to a minimum.  It doesn't make a person look any more impressive and most of the time its just trendy brands which will be soon out of fashion.  The best example of this is anything made by "Ed Hardy", sorry Ed Hardy fans.

Ill Fitting Clothes

This goes both way.  Overly baggy and overly tight.  Make sure all your clothes have a proper and comfortable fit.  Slim fit clothes are in right now but if you don't have the body for it then you need clothing that fits snug but not snug enough to be tight that it shows your exact figure.

Childish Underwear

Not many people are going to see your underwear but most likely the ones you want to impress the most will be the ones that will see them.  The current style of choice is for men to wear boxer-briefs which are stylish and comfortable.  Steer clear of tight, white briefs.

Skinny Ties

Skinny ties have been out since the late 80's.  There is no reason in this day and age to be wearing them so just go ahead and replace them with regular ties.  If you need ties then go to a thrift store, they will price ties the same no matter what company made them.  Look for name brands and be prepared to spend 5-7 dollars per tie.

Improper Buttoning

If you are wearing a button-up shirt you can leave the collar button undone and the next top button as well.  After that all the other buttons should be buttoned up.  Having an overly-exposed chest is not a good look unless you are hanging out in your backyard having a pool party.  If you are going out anywhere then keep them buttoned up.  Its not in style and no one wants to see your chest.

Shiny Fabrics

Shiny shirts, pants or suit jackets are way out of style.  Shiny suits are even worse.  Silk and rayon should be for lingerie or robes if anything.  Cotton and wool are the better choice.  There is no way any man can pull off a shiny suit unless you are some flamboyant celebrity.

Square Toed Shoes

This really only applies to dress shoes.  Make sure the shoes are round toed.  Square toed shoes are not in style and they may never have been even though companies still make them.  If you have a pair then go ahead and get rid of them, donate them to a second hand store.  When it comes to shoes the classic looks never go out of style.

Mismatched Styles

Mixing dress with casual with athletic and so on.  Don't wear dress shoes if you are not going to wear a blazer or suit jacket.  Don't wear a suit with a backpack.  Separate your clothes into groups like casual, business and dress and don't mix them together.  some men believe that it shows that they have an edgy side but it ends up looking out of place and will draw peoples attention to your "faux pas" instead of the outfit as a whole.

White Running Shoes

Unless you are going to the gym or are doing some running or training.  There are sneakers that you can wear that will work with a lot of outfits but shoes stick out if they are white athletic shoes.  If you are going to go with sneakers, go with black, dark grey, or black and grey.  A commonly seen mistake is men wearing light blue jeans with small ankles and big white running shoes.
