Are you this bored. |
I hate being bored, I mean I really hate it. There is so much to do in the world and sometimes you reach a point and you have nothing to do. If you had a long tiring day and you just want to relax then that's fine. What if you are up and about and have nothing planned and nothing to do. Sitting on the couch, watching TV or surfing the internet aren't great options. You really want to do something productive, so here are some ideas.
Take a Walk
If you are really stuck and have no vehicle that you can just get in and go you're left with just your feet. Lots of things are within walking distance these days, especially if you live in a big city. You can walk and find virtually anything, malls, museums, parks and pretty much anything else. During your walk look towards the poles of street lights and traffic lights you may find an advertisement for something you will enjoy at a later time. If you are in a suburban neighbourhood it may be tougher to find things to do. Still, be on the look out for local events. If nothing else comes of your walk then be satisfied that you have just gotten some exercise.
Read a Book/Magazine
Men should be taking time out of the day or before bed to read. If you find yourself with nothing to do, turn off the TV and pick up a book. Fiction or non-fiction, doesn't really matter as long as you are exercising your brain and learning. If you don't like novels than magazines are also a good alternative. There are countless magazines that would appeal to men's interests. You can even go on the internet and get free subscriptions to some or a trial issue for most others. If you are close enough, go to library. Libraries these days even have a magazine section with up to date issues.
Go to the Mall
Retail Therapy is a real phenomenon where after buying something you feel better. For sufferers of depression it helps a lot. Be careful not to abuse this fact because you could find yourself in debt very quickly. If you have a mall or plaza in your town then I'm sure there is a store there that would interest you. You don't have to buy a lot, just one item may make the difference. Also, try and make it useful too. Don't buy something just for the sake of buying. Find something you will use regularly or else its just a waste. If you are finding yourself strapped for cash then find a local thrift store, again, every town has one. You can find a treasure for a couple dollars and make your day.
Hit the Internet
Believe it or not, sometimes I get bored surfing the internet. I look at all my bookmarked sites, read a couple articles on Wikipedia then I'm done. Maybe its because I don't have enough sites bookmarked. Whatever the case is you can still get some use out of the internet to do something different Every town or city has a website, no matter how small. The city website will have a list of attractions, tourist spots and events. Another option is a website like Meetup which finds social groups in your area that you can attend, most for no cost.

Exercise
Clear a spot on the floor, put on your favourite music mix and workout for 45 minutes. Exercising is always a productive activity to do. If you don't have any weights or equipment, don't worry, do some basic exercises. Push-ups, crunches, squats, lunges or burpies. There are many exercises to do using your own body weight. Exercising will release endorphins that will make you feel better. Afterwards, take a long hot shower to relax your muscles so they aren't sore the next day.
Final Words
These above suggestions are all designed to either get you out of the house or get you at least moving. Getting moving and being productive requires a little effort and motivation. If you really don't feel like getting up and actually doing anything then your options are numerous, including downloading new music, watching a movie, reading blogs but I will always recommend something proactive.
