Hobbies for Men from Cheap to Expensive

Pick What You Want Based on How Much You Want to Spend

There are plenty of lists that you can find with hobbies for men.  Most are about starting cheap hobbies which I support but some men may want to know about some more exciting and more expensive hobbies.  So, I have a list divided up into hobbies by start-up cost.  Go through the list and pick and choose which one catch your interest and see if the price is right for you.

Free or Close to It

Reading: Go to the library, download books off the internet or buy from garage sales.  You can find books pretty much anywhere.

Writing: All you need is a pen and paper or writing on a computer.  Write a blog, fiction, movie or journal.

Hiking: Conservation areas are everywhere and most are free.  Sometimes you have to pay for parking though.

Cooking: Look on the internet and find recipes for whatever you have in your fridge.

Geocaching: Except for the gas in your car it wont cost you anything.  If you need exercise than walk.

Cards: Get some cards games going with your friends or join a league.  May cost you some buy-in money which usually inst much.

Moderately Expensive

Paintball: So much fun, get lots of exercise and meet people.  Gear to start-up may cost you around around $500.

Fishing:  A satisfying day out especially if you catch something.  Most men love fishing.  Rod, reel, tackle and licence may run you $200.

Carpentry/Woodworking: Another satisfying hobby as you are able to build and produce stuff.  Items made of wood are inherently more classy and beautiful.  Try hand tools first and look to spend around $300.

Target Practice:  Either with a gun or a bow and arrow.  Depending on what quality you get of each one they could cost around the same amount.  Around $400 for start-up..

Camping: The cost of camping has come down a lot but there is still a lot of items you need.  tent, BBQ, cooler, mattress and maybe a trailer.  If you go with the no RV option than look at spending around $300.

RC Racing/Drone Flying: Could get expensive depending on how advanced you want to go.  Good, basic car or drone could be $200-$300.

More Than Moderately Expensive

Go-Kart Racing: Find some used gear and car from someone looking to get out of the sport and you could get everything you need for around $3000, otherwise brand new will cost $5000.

Martial Arts:  Clubs charge anywhere from $50-$100 per month depending on what you want to learn.  Over the course of a year it adds up but the benefits are amazing.

Snowboading:  Good snowboards and gear cost a pretty penny.  You could be paying up to $500 just for the board.  Gear may cost the same.  Super fun though and good exercise especially in winter.

Car Restoration/Tuning: Depending on what you pick you could run the costs up pretty quick.  Budget your time and money on this one.  Results could be most satisfying from the whole list.

Boating: Even a cheap boat may be a couple thousand but you could also be kayaks, row-boats or canoes, all for around $500-$600 each sometimes up to $1200.

Final Words

Whatever you choose you the more you get into the hobby the more you are liable to spend.  There are a lot of options out there for men these days you just have to pick one or several even.  Hobbies are all about having fun, enriching your life and challenging yourself to be better.  Hobbies are definitely essential for growing as a man and if you are afraid of the cost of some of these then I encourage you to find the gear second-hand.
