6 Documentaries Every Man Should Watch

Just like with autobiographies there is a documentary for virtually every topic.  Documentaries are great for learning and if you enjoy the topic then they can be entertaining as well.  So, we have compiled a list of some great documentaries that cover some great stories and are very well done.

Senna

A brief history of Formula 1 driver Aryton Senna and his rise to fame with a more detailed description of his last few years until his death.

Lots of behind the scenes footage of the politics of racing and interviews with other drivers and team members.

Aryton Senna was one of the best drivers in Formula 1 history and was struck down at the very prime of his career.  Great documentary for any race fan.

Wrestling with Shadows

A rare behind the scenes look at the wresting industry.  Follow Bret Hart in the months leading up to the big "Montreal Screwjob".  Find out from both sides why it happened and the aftermaths for Bret and the WWE.

Great behind the scenes footage that is very rarely seen and all the politics that come with it. Great anecdotes from wrestlers and insiders on what was happening the entire time.

Big River Man

An entertaining and interesting story about a man who swims the lengths of the longest rivers in the world.  His son documents his attempt to swim the entire length of the Amazon river.  Dressed only in swimming trunks and guzzling wine and booze the entire time he powers through all day and sometimes all night long.  During the course he suffers from infections and hallucinations but never quits.

Alone In The Wilderness

Carpenter and Mechanic Dick Proenneke leaves civilization to live in the Alaskan wilderness.  Starting from scratch he builds a cabin and sets up a homestead.  Dick lives in the wilderness for 35 years.  He documents his first year in his journal and with a camera and tripod.

His skills as a carpenter come through as he builds everything with the materials at hand.  Including a sled, snowshoes, furniture, locking mechanisms and everything else you could imagine.

Awesome documentary for anyone who is interested in the outdoors and camping.
Battle of Stalingrad

Great documentary on one of the most pivotal battles of WWII.  If you are a man that knows nothing of WWII than you should at least know about the battle for Stalingrad.  Fortunately there are more than a few documentaries on the topic to pick from.  Any one of them will do.
The battle of Stalingrad is considered the battle that changed the tide of the war in the allies favour seeing the Germans given a crushing defeat at the hands of the Russians but the cost in human lives was tremendous.

Jonestown: The Life and Death Peoples Temple

Before Scientology there was The People's Temple run by Jim Jones. This is one of the most infamous religious cults in modern history which resulted in the greatest mass suicide in modern history.

This is another story that people should be familiar with in this day and age because it can teach so many lessons in human behaviour and psychology.
