Fallout 4 Anouncement and Mini-Game Review

This year at the E3 conference, game studio, Bethesda announced the release of Fallout 4 in Nov. 2015.  The game will be a massive open world, twice as big as their previous release, Skyrim.  Normally, I try to steer clear of news updates on here but Bethesda also released a Fallout mini-game called Fallout: Shelter to try and tide people over until November.  I love the Fallout franchise so I downloaded the mini-game and have been playing it.  Which means I can post a proper review for it here.

In Fallout: Shelter you take the role of Overseer of a vault.  You build rooms that perform roles such as water purification, power generation and food production.  The more you build the more vault dwellers are attracted to live in your shelter.  Based on their stats each one is best suited to a certain job.  You have to balance the basic needs of the vault with how many dwellers you have or else they will become unhappy and leave.

The added flavour in this game which makes it a true Fallout game is that by doing certain tasks you can unlock prizes which could include weapons, armour or special characters.  Eventually just like the big game you send out dwellers to adventure in the wasteland and hopefully come back with some useful gear.  Also, your vault will eventually be attacked by raiders or infested with giant cockroaches so you will need that gear to defend your vault.

Another interesting part of the game is that if you put two dwellers of opposite sex inside some living quarters they will eventually have babies.  After this you will have children walking around which don't do anything until they reach adulthood but they will be true children of the vault.  Your other characters also level up by doing their assigned work, defending the vault or putting out fires which sometimes happen.

When compared to the previous Fallout games this one seems like an insignificant shadow but it is very addictive and has all the flavour and feel of a Fallout game.  If you like the Fallout series then defiantly download this game.  The best part is that it is available for free on the app store
