An every day carry or "EDC" for short is a set group of items that you have on you at all times. It can and usually does include a wallet , keys and other items. Your EDC doesnt have to be mundane. You could have some things that are unique to yourself or a certain type of unique item. Perhaps your brand of wallet is special in some way. Men tailor their EDC to reflect what they need the most in every day life where they could turn to at any point to solve a problem.
Why Should You Have One?
As an adult man, over the years you should naturally have a set of items you carry with you most times. If you don't then you might find yourself saying "damn, I wish I had ........... right now." You don't want to be caught like that to often because any small mistake in this world could cost you something big. You always need to be prepared for common instances that require something extra. Men should always be prepared for anything.
Common Items
These are items that by now every man should have with them at all times.
Wallet: I'm pretty sure every man has one these days and it's always on them. Unless you are going swimming I don't see a reason not to have one on you.
Cell Phone: Almost everyone has a cell phone. It's pretty much a must have if you want to stay in touch with people and be quickly updated on what's happening around the world.
Keys: House keys or car keys or keys for a secret safe, everyone has keys of some sort.
Other Popular Items
Pocketknife: This is almost a must have for all men. A good knife is possibly the most useful tool you can ever own. Make sure it's foldable and don't buy one that is ridiculously large. Keep the length reasonable, it's a tool not for knife fighting.
Notepad: Great for writing down ideas or lists or anything else you don't want to forget. Many people use phone apps for this but others still prefer to have a hard-copy somewhere especially if you want to draw pictures. Engineers usually like to carry one that is graph paper for this reason.
Pen: With a notebook comes a pen. Some people like using a pen still to write down phone numbers too instead of fumbling with a phone. The faster you get get the information down the better. There are a lot of pens on the market with size in mind where they come compact and can extend.
Flash-light: Another extremely useful tool to have with you at all times. They come in all shapes and sizes now. Most have LEDs so they are pretty good quality. If you go to your local dollar store you can find a variety of them for a couple dollars.
Multi-tool: Multi-tools are increasing in popularity because you can get multi-tools of a multitude of designs and tool options. You can find them for key-chains or credit card shaped which are very easy to carry.
Additional items could include:
- Sunglasses
- Paracord
- Flashdrive
- USB Cable
- Small bottle of cologne
- Small comb
The list could be virtually endless.
Final Words
A lot of times a man's EDC happens naturally over time. Sometimes men can choose their items with their hobbies or interests in mind. A man should always be prepared and that's what an EDC is all about. You don't want to be somewhere and not be prepared. Don't go through the list and start jamming your pockets full of everything because that's not smart either. Pick and choose what's right for you.

1. Car keys and house keys
2. Black leather wallet, nothing complicated
3. iPhone 5s: I was able to get rid of some loyalty cards by installing the stores apps
4. Gerber Stalker knife
5. Pack of gum: I used to work at a "gentleman's" club so I always got used to carrying gum with me
6. Spare change: Not a lot, just enough to pay for parking or a coffee
7. Watch: A Bulova of some sort
8. Lighter: Because someone is always asking me for one
