11 Podcasts for Men

There are so many podcasts out there its crazy.  You could spend more time just searching for one under the many categories and never get to listening.  That's why is best to find some top 10 or top 25 lists of podcasts that others recommend.  I've tried to put together a list that appeals to men as far as self improvement but also entertainment and knowledge.  Podcasts are the new media with which to get information out to the masses and smart men should know how to harness the huge amount of knowledge being disseminated these days.

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History

I love history and Dan Carlin has one of the best podcasts for it.  He delves deep into historical events with detailed back-stories, motivations, quotes and anecdotes.  After listening you will have a far deeper understanding of what happened at that time in history.  Learning about history is an essential quality for a man to posses these days and this will certainly do it for you.  Just be sure to try and retain all the knowledge he is dropping in each podcast.

The Joe Rogan Experience

All right you savages, get ready for this!  Joe Rogan is one of those men that is doing it all these days.  Comedian, martial artist, actor, MMA commentator and fitness freak.  His podcast seems so random at times but is so entertaining and and packed with man knowledge that it will suck you in big time.  Joe of course has regular guests on who all lead interesting lives to begin with and he doesn't ask boring questions.

We're Alive

A Zombie apocalypse podcast that is done in an audio drama format with actors and sound effects.  Each podcast being a separate chapter.

"We’re Alive: Features chapters packing performances and sound effects that rival movies and prove that modern audio drama is undead and well. Join our survivors as they band together, struggle to fortify a safe haven known as the Tower, and discovers that zombies are far from the worst thing in a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles where the rules of human decency no longer apply."

Onnit

Total Human Optimization pretty much sums it up.  This podcast will give you nutrition and fitness advice.  Interviews with athletes and their training regimes.  It also sells a wide range of fitness equipment that are seen as non-traditional like Indian Maces and Kettle bells.  They also have a wide range of supplements that will help with pretty much any aspect of you body from mental to physical.  These guys really jam everything you could want into one source.

Hollywood Babble-On

Hosted by Kevin Smith and Ralph Garman (actor, voice actor) and sometimes have guests talk about the latest goings-on in Hollwood. They are not very big on gossip but they do talk about some behind the scenes stuff but also funny happening and stupid antics of some celebrities.  Informative and funny.

Man School with Caleb Bacon

Man School goes about helping men become better men by having other men tell interesting experiences that they have had.  The experiences are meant to entertain and educate by way of anecdotal stories.  Very cool and informative and all you have to do is sit back and listen to someone tell an amazing story.  At the end you will find out how one man's experience changed him forever and how you can learn the same lesson just by listening.

Still Untitled: The Adam Savage Project

Adam Savage along with two other hosts (Will and Norm) discuss everything under the sun.  Movies, books, comics and prop building.  Adam sometimes tells behind the scene stories from his TV show or movies that he has worked on.  Savage has too many hobbies to list and he tries to cover everything even taking audience questions. It's really interesting to hear Savage open up about his life.

Knowledge for Men

Each show has a guest on that will talk about one topic such as, "How to Pick up Women" or "How to dress better."  Good self improvement podcast for men looking to upgrade a certain part of their life.

The Memory Palace

Very cool little podcast here.  Lots of episodes to choose form and they all run about 15 minutes each.  Each one tells a story about a lesser know point or person in history who did something fascinating but has been lost to the sands of time.  Stories are told in book format so there is narration and descriptive actions.  Interesting, short and easy to digest, its a great way to spend 15 minutes.

The Skeptics' Guide to the Universe

A science show hosted by several scientist that discuss current science news but also pseudo-science such as the paranormal, science fiction and myths.  These guy cover a wide range of topics and they back it up with real information.  Its also surprisingly entertaining and humorous.  They round out the program with a little tech and nature news too just for the hell of it.

ESPN - Around the Horn

Around the horn is a sports podcast that covers all sports.  Oddly, one of the few out there right now.  They also have a unique format having one host and four guest reporters which are different every show.

"Host Tony Reali and four reporters from across the country debate the hottest issues of the day with points awarded for good arguments. In this sport of competitive banter, the winner gets 30 uninterrupted seconds to discuss the topic of their choice."
