Ways to Increase Your Knowledge Base

Get Smart(er)

So many times I've heard the phrase, "I wish I was smarter." being uttered by someone.  At first it may make you feel bad for the person saying it or it may not.  With the advent of the internet and all the scientific breakthroughs happening everyday it is getting harder and harder to feel sorry for someone who says this. Its not about being uncaring, its about not being ignorant to the fact that knowledge is everywhere.  The world is filled with so much that you can never absorb everything in a single lifetime.  But you should still try.  A truer phrase is, "Knowledge is power."  People with the knowledge will rise and people without will fall.  Its all out there for the taking if you are dedicated enough to go after it.  Increasing your knowledge base can change your life in ways you cant even imagine.

Overcoming Seasonal Depression

Beating the "Winter Blues"

Seasonal depression or the "Winter Blues" is something that affects many people, especially in colder climates.  This is a state of sluggishness and melancholy where you find yourself just waiting for winter to end.  Most times this feeling goes away around April when the weather changes and you start to spend more time outside.  Simply waiting for winter to end though is a bad way to deal with this feeling. You will have waited out winter having done or accomplished nothing in that time.  To combat this trend it is advisable to find activities to do indoors or out during the winter.

How to Follow Someone on Foot Without Being Seen

Serious Business, Not a Game

Months ago I wrote an article on how to follow someone in a vehicle without being seen.  Following someone on foot is similar in some ways but is different and involves different techniques. There is no guarantee that you will not be seen but using these techniques will make you far more invisible to the person you are following.  These techniques are used by professionals such as private investigators and take a long time to perfect.  Once again I have to reiterate that this is for educational purposes only.  I do not recommend anyone do this since you could be breaking the law in some jurisdictions.

Laws to Know for Everyday Life

Know the Law and Protect Yourself

Lets face it, there are a lot of laws out there and it's naive to think that someone should know all of them.  That being said, it's also naive to think that you don't need to be familiar with any of them.  No matter what country you live in you should at least be familiar with common laws that could be easily broken.  If you find yourself in a sticky situation knowing what and what not to do is a great asset.  It could mean the difference between jail and a lawsuit or nothing at all.  You would be doing yourself a great favour by gaining knowledge about commonly broken laws and situation surrounding them.

A Primer on Coded Writing

What is it and Why is it Important?

Coded writing has long been used to disguise messages and make them unreadable for people that don't know how to decipher them.  A Cipher is used first to change a word or sentence into something that looks like gibberish or is unreadable called the "ciphertext".  Another cipher is then used by another person to change the ciphertext back into a readable sentence which is called "Deciphering".  As you will see but reading this article breaking a code is very much dependent on discovering the "key-word" which hold the answer to some of the more complicated codes.  Some codes can be broken without the cipher or key-word.

What is it?

One crude definition for small talk is this, "conversation about things that are not important, often between people who do not know each other well:" - Cambridge Dictionary

If you look around the web you will find similar definitions about discussing "trivial matters" or "transactions that don't need to be addressed" which seems to suggest that small talk is really unimportant.  Literally, the first definition says it's not important.  Fortunately for the sake of

How to Conduct Yourself Better in an Arguement

Argue Smarter, Not Louder

Getting in an argument with someone is an inevitable fact of life.  Sometimes you meet someone with a opposite point of view than yours, they have a very passionate stance on an issue or your simple discussion escalates to the point where it's now an argument.  Most arguments are unwinnable because people, men especially, don't want to admit that they are wrong.  People would rather dig in their heels and defend a point that they know is wrong rather than admit defeat.  When this happens it will just create animosity between you and the

How to Tell If Someone is Lying to You

Its Not as Easy as On TV

Picking out the signs of someone lying is not like the TV show Lie to Me, where the main character picks out one small facial tic and determines just by that the person is lying.  While having a conversation with someone there may be hundred of movements and tics displayed but it doesn't mean picking out just one proves anything.  Its more complicated than that, where as you have to look for many different signs but keep in mind its not foolproof since some people act strangely out of habit.  So, here is what you need to know to start as a good baseline.
